optima compact 6 zone or new wireless alarm

hi all, we have an alarm, the control box is an optima compact.

the house has 3 pir, and originally had the front door set as the exit door with a magnetic contact wired into the alarm.

the previous owner had upvc doors fitted and rather than getting the alarm modified he simply taped up the front door contacts and put it under the carpet.

I have 3 questions,

1) would you remove the current alarm and install a DIY wireless one ( a decent quality one) , the alarm is 10 years old and the company that installed the alarm want 150 to service it.

2) can anyone recommend a good quality DIY wireless alarm with 4 pir sensors and wireless bell box.

3) is it possible to fit the original door contact to a upvc door or should we get that changed to a pressure mat or another pir.

1) no

2) no

3) yes

Its not usually the panle that gets a problem, its the wiring etc.

Nothing wrong with a door contact on a pvc door.

if you want to cahnge it why have radio when you already have it wired.

why spend 150 a year having it serviced when we can get a new one for 300.

if part of it breaks down we can then replace it ourselves without paying £150 a year.

if the system was complicated with windows wired up etc, i would keep it.

It amazes me sometimes why people ask questions, get a reply from someone, (who obviously knows what they are talking about), and won't accept it because it's not what they want to hear.

Most, if not all alarm companies will, at the very least, drastically reduce the annual charge if a 10yr old system is updated, I bet they have not even been asked.

I would either shop arround for someone else or find the engineer manual from some online source and sort out any issues myself.

I would certainly not advise replacing a perfectly good wired system with wireless.
