Hi, Please can someone help me with my alarm system!!!!!!. When i was decorating i cut the alarm wire which was inside the house. The wire was feeding through the wall to the outside alarm box. Ive tried to connect the two wires back up what ive cut by using terminal blocks 5amp but nothing is working on the control panel i.e buttons will not work at all & the light on the alarm box outside does not come on . PLEASE can someone help me with this.

Many thanks ...

i`d say you need a new length of alarm cable as it is similar to telephone cable
choc blocks don`t normally work well silicone bubbles work but wouldn`t know where to get any apart from a cable tv installer or telecoms worker if you know one ask them for some otherwise new cable is my bet

Don't forget the blown fuse/s in the control panel

(the CUT cable would have had 12v DC running through it)

I'd have a look at replacing the battery as well, done that recently?

Hi Europlex,

ive change the blown fuse in the control panel 1.6amp & it still does not work? when i cut the cable the alarm siren did sound like it went flat. When i switch the power back on for the control panel none of the buttons for the alarm code seem to work. If it is the battery how do i change that? & also the pir's around the house dont come on??

Had the fuse that you replaced blown?

You need a small test meter (get a cheap one from Maplins)
See if there is 12v at the bell 'hold off' terminals on the panel. Could be marked SAB, + & -.

Leave the battery off for now. (If it's flat - it will be - and an old one, it will 'pull' the voltage down at the terminals.)

Check there isn't another fuse blown. It should work (assuming you've connected all the cores at your cut).

hi SNM,

The fuse that i replaced has not blown.
Not to sure what you mean by the "bell hold off terminals"?

Which battery do you mean? do you mean the battery in the control panel?

There are no more fuses blown though & ive connected all the cores that i cut

if none of the detecors light up when they should, you have lost power to them, which is usuly as said a fuse.

just becasue you changed a fuse does not mean to say you did not blow it again.

how do you know you have not blown another fuse, what are you using to test them?

Are you sure there is power to the panel, as although unlikely, it could have tripped the breaker in your consumer unit (which if it is on it's own dedicated circuit you wouldn't have noticed anything else go off)?
