Hi.
Currently (slowly!!) renovating a 60's house.
Have stripped the wallpaper off the stairs and landing to be left with some rather messy plasterwork underneath and am just trying to figure out the best course of action.
The plaster has hairline cracks all over, and has a hollow sound in many places - Im a bit cautious about just getting a skim (which is all the plasterers ive had round seem to want to do) as other recently-skimmed rooms are starting to get hairline cracks - and that plaster looked to be in a better condition than this.
One plasterer suggested using 1m wide scrim tape over the whole area to stabilise it.. But wondering if its worth just going back to brick?
The house does suffer occasionally from vibrations from HGVs rumbling down the road which probably hasnt helped matters.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
