Find a couple of people with severe OCD push them in and lock the door for a few hours.

Yeah that's right. I definitely do not have ocd. The garage makes me look like I have a hoarding problem. I would get my missus. In there but. She'd have a nervous breakdown and then dump me. She has ocd. One of the reasons we don't live together.

the plastic shelving systems sold in DIY sheds are useful. But start with some of the translucent plastic crates. You can see what's inside them, they stack and keep your stuff clean and dry.

You can start by chucking stuff in to a crate per category, but it will be neater if you get small crates and lay stuff out more organised, not just a heap. For heavy things, like screws, tools and paint tins, get a shallow crate so you can lift it easily, and can reach everything when you open the lid.

the one-piece lids are stronger than the hinged ones, and more proof against dirt and even rain.

check the sizes of the crates and the shelves in your racks, it is annoying to have crates that won't fit.

screw the shelving to the wall so it can't fall over.

Use the 5S lean construction method :)

The system is used routinely in Japanese companies like Honda. It does however work just as well in a garage or shed.

Is it a bad idea to keep photos and paper work and clothes, rucksacks in the garage?

if it's integrated to the house, there may be enough heat coming through the wall to keep it dry. Otherwise it is likely the stuff will go mouldy.

If you actually put a car in there (rare these days) a car wet from rain will deliver a lot of damp.

Not connected to house unfortunately. I live in a block of flats. Guess best to get photos out of there and certificates.

Another thing is security. Most of the stuff, no one would want to steal however thieves like power tools and I have a few Dewalt tools and Stihl gardening power tools. I guess put them at the back of garage so they're hidden. Got a mower as well which needs to go in there s put that at front.

Worth putting shelves on back wall?
