I have to admit an awful mistake I have made building my house DIY style. My husband and I built our whole 1000 foot house by ourselves and we used plywood throughout no cutting corners EXCEPT for the last bedroom we added on.
To cut costs we used OSB even on the sub roofing. And then one rainy day we had a small leak in the right corner. And the OSB board became saturated with moisture and puffed up like a balloon then leaked down through the wall in the insulation and drywall. There was little mushroom growing out of the OSB board!! What a mess. I will never, ever use OSB or particle board ever again.
We did fix the roof but we might have to tear up that part of roof and replace and rip out the insulation and section of drywall. Yuck!
