Other lights not working after changing switch

Hi All,

I'm confused with this one! I'm not electrically minded but have changed most of my switches in the house by replicating how it was beforehand taking them off. I've just changed my switch and housing box to my en-suite (connected to the extractor fan and isolator switch). Switch the fuse back on and everything seems fine with the switch and my separate bedroom lights however my hallway, 2nd bedroom and bathroom on the same top floor does not work. Nothing has tripped in the fuse box. Thought it was strange that half work and half doesn't on the same loop, or perhaps not as I hope one of you experts will tell me??

Can you upload a photo of the switch in question showing the connections? It sounds like you have a wire in the wrong terminal.

But you decided that that should not in any way be a bar to you fiddling with things, didn't you.

Yup - one of the folllowing:

EITHER -

Buy a multimeter if you don't have one, learn how to use it, learn how lighting circuits work (you'll find a great deal of useful info here: http://www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:lighting), identify which cables are which and reconnect them properly.

OR -

Get an electrician.

Through your own ignorance and carelessness you got yourself into this mess - accept that it is your responsibility to get yourself out of it, not to carry on doing yet more fiddling with electrics when you don't understand what you are doing.
