Actually, for you Notchy, that's not bad.
When I added myself (60s) as a named driver on my mums (90s) insurance her premium reduced significantly even though I truthfully said that I would very rarely drive the car. Might be worth a try.
I considered classic insurance, but going on that, after two years, you lose all of your NCB. Which then means they can hike up the cost of the classic.
The good part of classic, is that the vehicle has an agreed insurance value.

Yes a named driver always seems to reduce the price of policies. Is it a new and valuable car perhaps trading in for a smaller low mileage older car would help. Has she declared she is a low mileage user, I would guess she doesn't do a lot of miles. I'm 74 and have 2 cheap older cars that both do less than 1000miles a year and pay similar prices to Transam.
My mum's in her 80s now. For some reason she gave up driving decades ago. She was a good enough driver however I think never 100% confident.

Should people in their late 80s still be driving . Reactions/mobility all reduced . As their children we need to make the decision for them sit them down and explain the dangers to them and other road users/pedestrians . I took my mums car off her at 83 she is 87 now Not made her any less independent uses buses and taxis

She has two people named on her policy, my sister, nearly 65 and my Mum's friend, 77.
And she has declared a lower annual mileage.
The car is a 15 plate Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSi Elegance with 13K on the clock.
She was happy with her 51 plate GT TDi Golf with 120K, but some idiot wrote it off reversing out of their driveway as Mum was driving past. Then drove off and denied it. Until the police got involved. Then cried and played the victim.
And somehow didn't end up getting done???
Grrrrr....rant over....
