quick word of warning-my local travis perkins are selling out of date plaster, and there warehouseman thought it may be a store wide problem. even worse they offered me a rubbish discount when i bought this to their attention

Within reason, there's nothing wrong with using out of date plaster. It's not suddenly going to pear shaped when it reaches that date. If it's been kept out of the damp there's nothing wrong with it. I often buy out of date bonding plaster/multi finish at my local B&Q with no problems, and I get a good discount on it. I have to point out to them it's out of date, but anybody who doesn't notice the date, would pay the full price. It goes off a little quicker, especially the bonding, but that's better than hanging around for ages waiting for it to set. Our local Builder Centre used to give it to regulars instead of dumping it. The quality is just the same. I think Boy Pop, that if Travis Perkins had offered you a better discount, you would have snapped it up, but because they didn't, it's rubbish. Each to their own but I have no problem with using it at all.

Cheers roughcaster, and agreed. FYI it was bonding coat, and as a pure diy-er not only do i need all the leeway i can get, it also means that i end up with leftovers hanging around for some time before being needed. I was also hoping for a hefty discount, which they claimed to give me, but which was still way above comparitive shop prices (you have read me like a book!)
Skim coating the front room today, leaving that bonding coat issue way behind me

Hi Boypop,
I went to our local Travis Perkins a few months ago for a box of 4" Gyproc coving. There's six lengths in a box, but I needed an extra cutting around 4 or 5 ft in length. There were some damaged lengths on the shelf so I asked how much for the damaged length, so I could cut what I needed from it. It was nearly as much for a damaged one, as a good one. Travis Perkins, tight as asre holes..... Good luck with your job.
