Have just done a continuity test with my multi meter and have continuity between my permanent live and switch live at the switch and light fitting... are the any other tests I should do?

If you're confident of those results, then I can't think of anything else - it sounds as if you have either a mal-functioning or mal-adjusted light/sensor.
