hi guys. i am going to put in a outdoor socket coming off a spur witch is quite near were the socket is going to be placed. i was wondering wether the sockets still needs a rcd even if the socket is a rcd socket? and if it isn't a rcd socket than does it still need one if you use a plug in rcd into the outdoor socket???

Ash, you say the socket you're intending to connect is coming off a spur? Or do you mean it's being spurred off?
Is this being connecting to an existing ring final circuit?
Is the socket going to be back-to-back with an internal socket?
If not, will any cabling be installed less than 50mm from the surface of an internal wall? If so the cable will need 30mA RCD protection.
Are you aware of safe wiring zones, in case the socket isn't back-to-back.
Are you also aware of the requirements of Part-P and that a socket attached to an external wall is notifiable to LABC before you commence work?
