Hi
Can anyone advise
I have had a outdoor socket fitted by an Electrician, this has been done via a direct spur from my garage which is on the main protected ring the only problem is the socket is always live, could I fit a dp switch or a fcu so I can turn off the power if we were going away as you dont know who could use you electrics.

Yep, a DP FSU like this is fairly easy to fit

As you say, it's currently live all the time, plus you have no way of isolating it if a fault develops (more likely with it being outdoors). It's also more convenient if you use it for xmas lights since you don't have to go out into the snow to turn them off.

I'm not a sparky but I believe it's also good practice to have the fuse in there since it's more than likely you will plug an extension/multiple loads into the socket which in effect creates a spur from a spur etc. Was it a qualified sparky who fitted it?

Also, is it or the ring RCD protected?

Thanks for reply,
Yes it was a qualified sparky and I have a certificate, Yes it should be no problem fitting it but I thought I would make sure as it was on a notified job and yes ring is RCD protected as bungalow is only 2 years old.
Thanks Kev

There's a fuse in every plug to pevent this happening.
