I constantly have problems with my OE. Works for a while, then Error numbers, spend hours researching fixes, works for a while, then more error numbers.

The one that appears now is;

Access to the account was denied. Verify that your username and password are correct. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Forbidden', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 998, Error Number: 0x800CCC33

What can I do? Is there another system other than OE?

Will this link from M.Soft replace or fix my OE?

WS, (Woodbine),

Microsoft are in the throws of getting rid of OE, so you can download the Windows Live as in your link.
You get the options in Custom Install (or something similar) to install which bits you want. If you don't use Messenger then don't install the new version.

You can import your address book etc from OE :

It may be wise to open OE -> Tools -> Accounts and make a note of your settings such as POP3 address and Smpt address and usernames.

You can then use them to set up Thunderbird if you still like the workings of OE, as it is similar but without the lack of interest from MS that OE suffers from. You get the option to import your address book after installing Thunderbird.

Thanks for your help.

I'm going to download Windows live to replace my OE.

When the box comes onto the sreen, do I save (as opposed to run) the programme? Where is best to save it?

When I have saved it, do I have to run it?

When you click the Download button it will show the SetupFile window, click Save Fileand if asked, save it to Desktop.
That way you know where the file is for when you want to run the install. And yes, you double click the icon to run it.

Look at the list of what it will install, and click which you want.

Sorry one last question.

Do I need to uninstall OE when I have installed Windows Live, or will it be removed/updated automatically?

Thanks

Just leave it where it is.
You can right click the icon if you have one on the desktop or quick launch bar and select delete. That will delete the icon but not OE.

You can remove OE but it is not something for the faint of heart or computer newbie. The article is at (Edit, link removed) Forget it, MS have moved the link, probably because of the complications it causes.
It did involve renaming directories, removing registry keys and renaming files.

Errrr! Just leave it. ;)

Yes, you may have guesssed that my knowledge of these things isn't great.

Leaving OE where it is makes sense.

Thanks again for your help.

Have downloaded Windows Live Mail, and it works!!!!!! :)

Outlook Express is now just a distant (and sad) memory.

Thanks to all for your help.

can you store your mail into mail folders on the PC, like with Outlook?

Erm, I'm not sure John. Appears to have the same functions as OE, plus some extra ones.

OE seemed old fashioned and not very user-friendly. For me, it was also hopelessly unreliable. Live Mail, I believe, has been introduced to overcome these problems.

Yes, just tried it. You can save your emails to a folder.

If you want to replace your OE, follow the link in my first post in this topic.

When you start downloading, your are given some check boxes for other additional things like tool bars, Photshop, etc, etc. You can have these if you want. I just went for the Live Mail.
