Just moved into a new house and i want to install a new 500w outside pir light to replace the old dated light fitting.
When looking at the light it seems that there is no earth. I intend to run some new 2.5 t&e from the fuse box to a 3a fused switch then to the light to replace the old two core wire.

The question a have is that the old light wiring runs to a 16amp glass/ceramic fuse, would it be ok to connect back up to this?

Any help would be great thanks

if you post up pictures of the features you mention, we may be able to advise further. Glass / ceramic fuse doesn't sound too good. Though I appreciate your description is vague.

Got it sorted today turns out the fuse was a fusewire 15amp type.
I got a man in, he took a 2.5mm cable t&e from the fuse box to a 3amp switched fuse and then a 1.5 t&e to the outside light.

All works fine now apart from lighting up the whole street, think i will change the bulb for a 150w instead of the 500w.

Thanks for you help

Cheers will change that over.

Thanks for all you time really helpful

I found a GE bulb that claimed 500 watt output for 300watt (£5 at B&Q). I cant tell the difference, but the original bulb only worked twice, so not a lot to compare it with.
