Hello, This is my first post so please be gentle.

I have aquired four antique cast iron lamp posts and have converted them to accomodate Edison screw tungsten filament lamps and installed them at various points in the garden.

I have also installed a PIR controlled tungsten halogen security light on the side of the house. The posts and the security light have been supplied from a standard metal clad, one-way grid switch externally mounted.

The feeds to all the lights are in 1.0mm² pvc/pvc twin with c.p.c. cable, clipped direct to the external brickwork and also laid in 25mm of sand under the patio slabs to each post in the form of a radial circuit.

The metal clad switch is fed from a socket outlet on the downstairs ring final circuit using 1.5mm² pvc/pvc twin with c.p.c. cable which passes through the wall and is clipped with the 1.0mm² cable on their edges upto the switch.

Each Edison screw lamp fitting together with a terminal block is mounted on a plastic base and secured in the head of each pot.

I have an electrician coming to inspect and test the installation, and just wanted to make sure everything is ok before he arrives.

A drew some pictures to help you.

Hello Mr T (I can't believe it! It's Mr T!)

Should be an IP rated (weatherproof) switch and you shouldn't run unprotected T+E pvc outside either! And have you not fused down the supply? And why change cable size?

Better to have a fused spur at the socket outlet position (to match the rating of all your lights) and then use 1.5mm 3 core SWA cable and glands and a weatherproof switch!

This is a word for word copy of the structured question i sat in the december 2005 2391 written exam paper.

I'm not sure its word for word, but its certainly pretty damn similar!

Maybe his lecturer has altered it just slightly ;)

I was made up doing this question on the exam as external lighting is my specialist subject. And i passed the 2391 first time :D

are we we going to list the faults or not?

I had this as an example paper to do for my 2391..

1. 1.0mm² is rated at 11A, and you can fit a 13 to the plug.. although it's not clear if it's hard wired to the socket back or plugged in.. if it's hard wired then it will be either 20A radial or 32A ring.. even worse.

2. metal clad switch is not IP rated for outside..

who's next?

Ah piddy da fool who used to think he was cool. Ah piddy da fool...

Hey you, shuddup! You no calling me no fool!

Although I did take the bait
