Hi,
I'd like to fit a PIR light on the outside of my house. Would it good practice to wire this into my main lighting circuit? (My house only has one lighting circuit, serving both upstairs and downstairs lights). Or should it be on a separate circuit? (I have no spare fuse outlets on my fuse box, so a MCB installation would probably be required if this is the case).

Thanks,
Matt

Asuming it's not humungous, and won't overload the lighting circuit, then that would be fine.

Another option would be via an FCU from a socket circuit.

by security light do you mean 500W halogen floodlight by any change?

if so i would probablly put it on a FCU from the ring putting one of those on a 5A lighting cuircuit that has much else on is asking for trouble

I would put it on the ring via an FCU. Even if the current light is not a 500W job, there is no guarantee that someone in the future is not going to change it for one, so to play safe do it via the ring main.
