Hi

I have an outside tap the likes of which I've never seen.

Is this a normal kind of thing? It has the advantage of my being able to drain it for winter by unscrewing the nut at the bottom but looks odd.

Can anyone advise?

TIA

Nothing wrong with it.

They either didn't have a 90 degree bend and so used a t peice and blanking plug, or there was originally something else connected to it.

The tap it's I've seen quite a few around, pretty standard outside tap.

Thanks. I've just never seen anyone else with one. Is it possible to drain more standard taps when shutting down for winter or is it maybe an advantage having the tap I have?

1.There is no significant dead leg.
2. The water comes from just above the stop end at the base of the vertical pipe run, and runs up to the tap.
3. With this configuration you can't drain the vertical pipe run from the tap.
4. Someone who knows what they are doing has fitted a stop end at the lowest point to enable the pipe to be drained for winter.
5. A lever valve might have been easier to use than a stop end, but if drain down is forgotten, is more likely to be frost damaged.

Looks crap but good design. In winter turn off inside and drain. If the Bib tap is a NRv type water could sit and freeze.
