Hi

I'm busy trying to design a kitchen with a built in oven. Is there any restriction or potential problem in the distance from the wall plate to the oven, or does it have to be near the wall plate. Ideally I'd like the oven to be about 3 metres away from it.

Thanks in anticipation

The switchl gear should be placed within two meters of the appliance, but not directly above it. Where two cooking appliances are installed in one room one switch can be used but both appliance are not 2m from switch.

For further see section 4. Electrician guide to building regulations if you can get hold of a copy. It costs 20 quid. might be worth it if you are spending thousands on a new kitchen and save grief down the line.

Hi RJB

Thanks for the swift response. I had expected it might be a problem so your confirmation will save me £20 for a book of regs, OR cause me a lot of work re-routing the cable and switch location. But methinks I'll change my proposed design and save on the work too.

To be honest the switch is already 1.5 metres from the switch so adding the additional length to where I want it would make it 5 metres I reckon. Stretching it a bit too far methinks!

Thanks again.
