Hi Guys, I would appreciate some help on a problem i have.

I have a m reg Laguna which is over revving. It is very slow uphill and petrol consumption has increased. It sounds like their is an exhaust leak.

1) How do you diagnose whether it is cltch slip

2) Is there any other alternative, such as exhaust leak, clutch cable etc. and how do you diagnose them.

3) What is the eventual outcome of driving with a slipping clutch.

i am getting rid of the car soon so i dont want to spend any cash on it.

A good way to check for clutch slip is.... ensure you have plenty of room round the car, apply the handbrake, run and hold the engine @ about 1200rpm,engage 2nd gear then let the clutch out quickly, the engine should stall immediately. If not,the clutch is slipping.

If you run the car with a slipping clutch it will eventually break up and it could score the flywheel making it a really expensive job.
