Moving into a new house and the previous occupants cladded the old ceiling with some tongue and groove. This could be to cover up some cracking or whatever. What I wanted to do to save ripping it all down was to overboard this with 12.5mm P/B then skim it.

Only thing is the the cladding is only about 1/2" thick so wont be able to screw straight into this to hold the P/b on to it alone, I suppose I could get a few hits into the the joists themselves every so often with longer screws.

Would this be acceptable? I know ceiling P/B needs to be fixed in good an proper...

If the "cladding has been put up properly and is firm on the ceiling, !/2" is plenty thick enough to screw to.... ;) You could always screw thru the cladding into the joists first....

Always been a bit of a belt and braces man just have this fear of the ceiling coming down on me and all that hard graft skimming gone to waist!
