Hi there,
I have a Vaillant thermocompact boiler which i managed to overfill and the pressure bar has gone up to 3. The last time it reached this number it started leaking. How can I get the pressure down? If I let a tap run the gauge goes down but shoots right back up when the tap is turned off again. What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Basically my pressure gauge has gone up to bar 3 and I need to reduce it. Can anyone help? Sensible advice please not daft philosophising!

The mysterious bit is that the tap shouldn't affect the boiler pressure, unless you've left the filling loop open. It should be left disconnected.

Drain some water out of a drain cock, or keep "bleeding" a radiator until enough water has gone all over the floor.

Hi it sounds like the plate heat exchanger has a pinhole in it, allowing the cold mains to pass into the other side making the pressure rise, i had the same prob on a worcester boiler could mean a new plate heat exchanger

could be youve left the filling loop open resulting in your mains is about 3 bar. not enough to release the prv. but your linking your mains water with ch water, summit doesnt sound right.been known check valves failing on filling loops.

Is there a drain point on the system??
some place around the outside of the house perhaps??

If not the blead a rad into a bowl.

the gauge will move down as there will be a negative pressure from the pump when in kicks in to heat the boiler.
