Hi guys

Quick question - recently i have noticed our outside overflow pipe leaking when the heating system comes on (stops dripping after 30 or mins it seems)

The pipe (there is 2 together? but seems only 1 is dripping) seem to be located in the attic so assume its central heating related?

House is a 1998 build - and pipes face out on side of house so not sure how long its gone on. I can grab some pictures if needed tomorrow when light!

Any advice be great thanks

Check the two tanks and find out where it's coming from first.

Sounds like the ballvalve of the headertank is set too high. Or failing.

Sorry for late reply on this, forgot all about it until noticed recently the dripping again

Went up today to have a look and we have 2 tanks that both run into the pipe thats leaking

Both have the ball valves in there and i took 2 pics below, at the moment its just dripping into the tanks from the ball valve and the flow increases as you push down the ball valve and stops when pushed up.

Does anything look wrong with the ball valves from the photo's?

If it drips then there IS somethinf wrong even if you cant see anything, it may only require the valve cleaning or the seal replacing. In both cases turn the mains off.

Ok so mains off, clean valves & check seal is way to go?

I assume local DIY places will stock replacement parts if need be? and replacing seal etc is pretty easy?

Your ball valves are called type 2 valves, and the closing off washer is beneath the knurled brass ring holding the coloured plastic bit in.
You can replace either the complete valve or just the washer, but of course you have to turn the water off first. Handy if the tank has isolators! If you're not sure what to do, you can buy a new valve cheaply from B&Q etc and take that one to bits before getting stuck in - and then you've always got a spare. Nothing worse then losing a bit of the valve when you are doing the job in the evening.....

You're very welcome.....two large and clean header tanks! Presume one is to feed the DHW cylinder and the other for a gravity shower maybe.
Have fun!
