My brother owns an "M" reg 418td Rover, which has started to overheat & develop what seems to be back pressure in the expansion tank. He has changed the radiator (it was falling to bits) , changed the water pump & checked hoses etc. The overheating seemed to start just after he found a small water leak under the car. Can anyone help he's at his wits end.

Thanks

Long shot, don't mean to insult you , but is the head gasket ok? Oil milky?

There's no oil in the water & no milky deposit under the oil filler cap. We have been swaying to the fact it could be the cylinder head though.

You need to pressure test each cylinder then, if the water is leaking out I would have thought you would loose compression as well even if water is not getting into the cylinders.
