I have been advised to cut some owatroil into Weathershield when repainting the front of the house ... will the oil not make the paint even less breathable and cause damp problems ?

I use Owatrol oil with Dulux Trade Weathershield oil based paints. You are only using a tiny amount of Owatrol through. I have been using the two together for years and have never noticed any issues.
Are you sure that you are talking about owatrol oil and not another product from the same firm such as Owatrol E-B which is added to waterbased masonry paints?
