Hi,
I understand that you should not paint new plaster, especially wet plaster with vinyl paint, because it seals the moisture in.

Can anybody tell me what the worst case scenario is, if you do paint with vinyl paint?

I am trying to get a house ready for some people to move into, and have already painted most of it (all old, dry walls) with vinyl matt.

I'd like to paint some new, still dark plaster, to match, even if starts to peel I have to come back and do it again in a few months.

But are there other consequences I should be aware of?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Don't. If you've got to come back, then do the contract matt now on the damp plaster, and then repaint with the vinyl matt on the subsequent visit. Find a colour that has vinyl and contract paints, and then the match will work, or find paints that are a similar enough colour not to notice.

If you paint the damp plaster with Vinyl paint, then not only will it peel, but it won;t peel evenly, and you'll spend a lot of time and effort getting a clean surface to then paint on.

I agree with doggit.

Another possibility is that when you start to apply the second coat (by roller), it may pull the paint off the plaster. Additionally, the colour might be inconsistent .
