paint for crack in render?

Hi all,

I had some cracks in the render on my side wall render near roof flashing a few years ago and a builder came and painted some grey coloured paint over the cracks and it cured it instantly. I have another crack in another wall now which is letting in damp, does anyone know what this paint could have been so I can do a temporary repair?,
