Paint on Masonry

Can anyone tell me what the most effective way of removing white gloss paint from red bricks is. I think some sort of sanding is required or wire brushes can anyone elaborate and specify most effective method and tool- Thankyou

I am painting the porch outside my house - i have removed a white wooden frame- unfortunately the previous owner was slapdash and left a white silhouette on the wall all round the wood i have removed
