Paint or stain for decking

ive laid down some fresh timber decking and want to achieve an anthracite grey finish to match my alluminium bifolds. The bifold and decking can be seen in the attached picture.

Should I use a paint or stain for this please?

Given that my friend's decking caught fire this week (resulting in the insurance company temporarily housing him for the next 2 months whilst repair works are undertaken), I would be tempted to recommend fire retardant paint...

Painting it dark grey will cause it to get noticeably warmer

I have always left softwood decking to do it's own thing, and after 2 years its a nice mid-grey colour.

Once you start treating decking, you never stop....
