I find that opened paint skins over so how can I stop this so I don't have to remove 5mm of skin before I use the paint again two months later. Any ideas

About the only way is to tip your paint into a kettle and then clean the rim straight away so the lids seals properly. As it becomes nearly empty you'll still get probs though.

Make sure the lid area is clean and the lid gets a good seal. Then turn the pot upside down so that the inside of the lid joint gets a coating.
I have wondered about storing paint tins upside down so that any skin would form on the bottom. Don't know if this would work?

This idea of leaving the tin upside down (so that skin is at the bottom when you re-open it) was given to me by a friend years ago. However, I must admit that I've never tried it myself.

I've seen sheds covered in leaking paint with that method.

I was told by a neighbour( a painter and decorator) to briefly invert the tin and then store normally. It has worked so far.

Yes and he gave you good advice, another way would be to stretch a little cling film over the top before replacing the lid.

Just let it skin up - get a special knife from your local Rabbi
