Hello all , i am going to paint my lounge diner and just wondered how easy it is to use a paint scuttle , i have always used trays but i thought it would be quicker with a scuttle.
Thanks Howy

Unless you are painting the walls with a brush (not recommended unless it's a National Trust property or something), then you'll need a roller tray for your roller (it won't fit in a kettle). Roller trays hold more paint than a kettle and have ridgy bits to help remove excess paint when you load the roller.

Kettles are for holding paint (undercoat or trim coat) which you are going to apply by brush onto smaller surfaces (woodwork, usually, such as window frames, doors, skirtingboards. Have no more than an inch or so depth of paint in the bottom, or you will get paint all over your ferrule - and you wouldn't want that! :D

A scuttle is a large rectangle bucket with grooved sides. Meant for bulk application on large rollers.

The op asked (not about kettles).

If you know your going to use 20 litres in one hit, of the same colour then yes they are better for bulk over a tray. Only real danger is splash, drips and the fact that they take a few goes before you get the method for roll recharge right. 100% necessary if your using a tele pole.

My apologies. Of course it is. I was just ordering some paint kettles at the time and my brain failed me!
