paint stripping

Please recommend an effective paint stripper for wooden interior door frames. Any tips would be appreciated to produce a smooth finish. Would frame need to be primed b4 painting gloss. Tnx

Important note before you start...

"....In older properties, in the UK, earlier than about the late 1960's, added care must be taken if there is a chance that you are stripping lead based paint - avoid mechanical and heat methods of stripping (these could produce lead dust or fumes) and wear an appropriate breathing mask. Seek guidance to ensure the health of you and your family is not effected..."
 
Are you sure you need to strip before repainting?

Consider using a hot air gun and scraper.

Don't do either of those. For perfect results, sand them back until they are smooth and then undercoat and topcoat. Satinwood is much better than gloss.
 
modern paint strippers are pretty useless as they have been reformulated to remove the harmful chemicals.
