painted limestone repair

I am due to repaint (not originally painted by me) the limestone detailing around the windows, doors etc on my Victorian terraced house.
Several small patched of limestone have detached - can anyone recommend a) the best material to repair with (it will be painted over) b) how best to apply it to acheive a flush finish?

any help would be greatly appreciated.
