Painting a ceiling

Hi all,

Is there a specific paint i should use on a ceiling? like for example matt, vinyl or silk?

im ashamed to admit its my first real diy job on my own and any advice appreciated

I always use matt on ceilings and walls (unless a customer absolutely insists) Silk will just reflect light & highlight any imperfections (and is as tacky as windcreen dice & Hilda Ogdens wall ducks ! )
