Morning guys,

I've got a fireplace in my house that has had the reveal finished with what appears to be some form of render. I am wanting to paint it and looking for some advice?

I am assuming that masonry paint would be the best paint to use, but what do I need to do to prepare the render before painting? Do I need to use a primer/undercoat? Or 'seal' the render somehow? I've looked online but all advice I can find for painting render is for external walls and I'm not sure if I need to go to the same lengths with internal render?

Thank you!

It will need a thinned down coat of what ever paint you are using to seal the render. Then build up with full coats till it looks solid.
No special primer is needed. It doesn't have to be masonry emulsion as its inside.

Cheers Robbie,

What do I thin it down with (sorry, I'm no decorator by any stretch of the imagination!!).

And I can just use normal emulsion then?? That gives me a bit more scope on colours to choose from!!
