What preparation and what type of paint should I use for the walls and ceiling in my bathroom? There are three different wall surfaces that need painting as below:-

1. Existing Emulstion paint over Plaster over render over brick type wall
2. Existing Emulstion Paint over Skimmed plasterboard ceiling
3. Bare unplastered plasterboard (taped and jointed)

Note that the plasterboard is well away from any wet areas.

1; Good quality emulsion
2; Ditto..
3: IF the joints are skimmed & smooth then one thinned coat followed by two 'pure' coats ... If joints are showing ,then another 'easyfill' skim or lining paper followed by one thinned coat > two 'pure' coats...

Never ever lining paper for new plaster boards. There is nothing better than brand new plasterboards. Surface is perfectly smooth if joints are no so smooth than just easyfill and sand.
