Hi, Im about to replace the existing skirting and trims in the hallway. I had planned to do the following, but need some advice before i start...

1. Rustins Knotting Solution (white)
2. Wickes Acrylic Water based Primer/Undercoat (got some in the shed)
3. Light sand down
4. 2nd Primer/Undercoat
5. Dulux or Crown water based Satin
6. Light sand down
7. 2nd Coat of water Satin
8. Sit back and wait for the wife to tell me how crap it looks (typical).

I cant do much about no.8 but how does the rest sound?

Many thanks

You could go for one coat Satin, it'll save you lots of time!

Personally, I don't bother priming my skirting boards, but then I use MDF pre-primed, £7.00 per 4m length from Howdens!

Some decorators caulk/gap filler in any gaps between wall and skirting, and at any joins in the skirting.

It's the gaps which can really make a job look bad.

I usually do this after the first primer coat.

And a filler for any nail holes.
