Painting newly plastered walls

I have just had some plastering done and now need to painty them, I have heard people say they seal the wall first but what do they seal it with.

Diluted PVA 5:1 or diluted emulsion. I personally favour PVA.

I always water down my first coat of emulsion so that it soaks into the plaster. Works for me!
