Hi all

I have put up normal standard plasterboard (12.5mm thick) on my BATHROOM ceiling.

I intend to paint it white

What do I need to do in order to make it waterproof, but also in a state to paint. My understanding is this:

1. Get some Matt emulsion and add water to it to act as a mist coat
2. Paint it with normal paint once the mist coat has dried

Do I need to skim the ceiling or can I just put mist coat then a coat of paint straight on to the board as it is (once I have filled in the joints).

Also, when painting on to moisture resistant board, is the process the same?

Thanks

Plasterboard is designed to be skimmed, not just left unskimmed and painted. In a bathroom it is especially advisable.

So, get it skimmed, then when dry, mist coat it.

Then you can apply whatever paint you choice - but I'd recommend an eggshell finish if there is any danger of steam getting to it.
