Painting over a plastered artexed ceiling

Had a ceiling that had artex and was skimmed with plaster.
However, the artex pattern is showing through now it has had paint on it.

Is this normal? Will it just require several coats of paint?

give it another coat new plaster has a lot of suction so thats why it might be showing through.
