Painting ply

Was planning to replace some t&g with panelling and was going to use ply fr the main back with mdf and a bt of trim to create the panels.

Only thing was, I am not sure what the finish on the areas of ply will when gloss painted? Should I use a primer first?

Yeah dry area although it's a ground floor bay and whilst it should never see any water, I thought there could be the chance of moisture so thought ply may be the best choice?!

Would mdf be okay? Was planning to use some rigid insulation between the framing and if I need one, a vapour barrier?
