I'm Gradually working my way through the house painting all the Varnished doors, Facings and skirtings. Finished upstairs rooms and now come to the staircase. All the varnished wood is done with a water based stained Varnish ( I Know cos i did it myself about 15 years ago. I'm sanding / Keying all the wood and using Zinnser Bullseye 123 Plus for the Primer. I did one door in a shower room with this a few years ago and over coated with Perma white and its still good. My Question is
When I first started I bought the Johnsons Aqua undercoat and satin top coat as finish over the 123 Plus. I then read that this is a Hybrid Paint and will eventually yellow, so switched to Zinnser allcoat White Satin. Does the Johnsons Aqua yellow eventually and is the Allcoat a Good choice for the stairs and Hand Rail ?

Skin oil on hand rails softens waterbased paints, so the water based alkids are best however, I've used scuff-x and our rail is solid after 3 years.

I've had Johnstones aqua satin go yellow and I don't know why? Still white ish but definitely has a yellow tinge.

BIN aqua is very good primer and one you should look at
