Hello all.

I've recently ripped back the carpet on my stairs and plan to install a runner. Therefore the side treads and risers need to be painted.

I was planning to do it using the same paint on the skirting (Sikkens Rubbol BL Satura). However, I want to know whether this is appropriate? As it is technically a floor, does it need to be a special type of paint? Or if I use the regular paint, does it need some sort of protective topcoat?

Ultimately, it's only going to be the sides (around 15cm each side) that need painting, so they won't be getting much wear on them, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Appreciate any responses.

I have in the past just used the same paint as the skirts to match in. As there is a runner the sides will not be getting any wear due to usage. Satura will be fine for what you suggest!

Thanks Vitro.

I thought as much, once it has cured fully it should be hard enough anyway.
