Its a friend who has someone coming to lay it for them. They don't know much about the layer but may not be very professional at all.

The boards are 1200 mm long and 200 mm wide with a single plank effect.

The area is a long hallway from the front door straight for about 6m to the back of the house and the stairs. It is roughly a metre wide.

It is pretty well agreed that the boards should run lengthways away from the door so that it follows the long wall.

But then how should the boards be cut?

Supposing there were five boards wide? Should they be cut at about 250 mm or a longer length so the boards repeat across the width?

Any suggestions on a website with some suggestions and pictures?

FWIW:

You will be raising the FFL height - if the front door has a raised threshold there should be no problem.

Reducers/threshold strips/transitions at all other doorways.

Stagger joins by min. 150mm but dont stagger in steps.

I would remove skirtings - but its a site call.

Jambs and architraves must be undercut to include an expansion gap.

Any step downs to cellars or kitchens then come back here.

Underlay is a must.

No damp - period.

Fitter should have a table saw, minimum.

I don't have a table saw :(

But I have a chop saw and a exakt saw DC270 which IMO the best tool about for cutting wood.
