I am extending my parking area a bit to get away from pigeons in tpo tree. I have edges round the area with sleepers and dug down 250 mm, I have hit clay which in these conditions has turned into the somme. The area has a slope on it. The intention was to put membrane, 150mm type one compacted and then get it tarmaced to fit in with the rest. Apparently we now want an extension and the builder suggested we leave tarmac until after diggers and lorries etc. My concern is if I put only type one down for next several months will the water percolate through the type one to clay and destabilise the lot? My question is should I put some sort of drainage, French drains around top and bottom of slope to a soakaway? Should I put more type one or other material down? Any advice most welcome.
