I have just moved into a house that has a parkray solid fuel with back boiler and don't have a clue how to use it. Have put the fire on a couple of times but there doesn't seem to be much heat coming into the room. Any pointers appreciated.

It's possible the baffle plate is warped and requires replacing. If the baffle plate is warped too much air (and heat) will be disappearing up the flue.
I would strongly advise having the appliance and chimney checked by an Approved Chimney Sweep who will also advise you how to use it.
