I've recently bought a late 50s newtown mid-terrace. I'm adding top-up insulation and putting some in a few gaps as the water tank has just been removed when the combi boiler was installed.
On checking the existing insulation there's a 150-200mm gap between the first joist and the party wall on either side which looks like the top of my internal walls. 100mm rolls have been installed between the joists in the usual manner aside from the previous tank locations. (Picture attached)
I've had a look round for a building reason to leave the top of this uninsulated and I can't find one, my gut instinct is that it's lazyness from not wanted to deal with small bits of fibreglass and that as it looks like it's the top of the wall rather than ceiling the heat loss isn't so bad anyway.
I'm looking to stick some insulation in the gap as I'm already going to have some over from what I've bought anyway.
Any compelling reason not to?
