Central locking will no longer unlock boot.

All other doors continue to work ok.

Can unlock boot with key - which we have never bothered to do before this problem has arrisen.

Any ideas? Whats the best route of diagnosing the fault?

Cheers ;)

Just a guess really, but as each door has its own locking motor it could be an assumption that the boot one has broken - especially if it only works one way.
John :)

As John says the motor could be faulty. The motors are electric not vaccum operated so you could try removing the trim and testing if you have voltage at the lock when the remote is operated.

If you don't then the likely fault is the wiring between the tailgate and the car has split due to the opening and closing of the tailgate stressing the wires. It is really common on VAG cars for this to happen on the front doors. The wires are threaded too tight and they eventually brake, it often starts intermitent then eventually stops working at all. Check the wires in the rubber boot at the top of the tailgate.

I think the older VAG cars had a position on the key that stopped the boot from being locked on the remote?
