I have been sent an older check box .SEAWARD CHECK BOX 500. PSL CB7
the problem is I was not given Instructions with it ..now I am finding it hard to track a copy of manual / instructions.. It was first callibrated in sept 1997

any help received greatfully..

You will have to register to download it. That is a good site for information it is worth a good look around. Loads of information if you are not familiar with pat testing.

Hi Thank you for the prompt replies about the check box .unfortunately the box that they list and the instructions are not for the model that I listed .also their site does not have the instructions either ..I thaught I would try here before contacting the seaward guys direct..as the box is quite old but has been calibration checked..

It's odds on Seaward will have a manual for your tester , if not they will instruct you in it's use, probably very similar to the one in the link.
Have you a visual link to your tester, it wont be difficult to use , perhaps someone will be able to help if you can show it.

In 2000 I had some problems with a PAT tester it seemed the tester could not be calibrated to the new regulations.

It caused a lot of problems this is sequence of events.
1) Tester sent away for calibration then returned with certificate.
2) Bought computer software to log all tests.
3) Found software required one to enter the values and the tester only had go/ no go lights.
4) Talked to software company who advised we look on the calibration certificate and enter the value which it says the machine will pass items at.
5) Found this figure not on paperwork so contacted the calibration house.
6) Started testing but used Excel so figure could be entered once value known.
6) Found calibration house could not find traceable record of the calibration and asked to return tester for re-calibration FOC.
7) Informed by calibration house tester should never have been issued with a certificate and it could not be calibrated to new IET recommended pass levels. Seemed passed anything with line / earth resistance of 0.1M ohms or above not 1 M ohm or above.

New PAT tester was ordered and all items had to be re-tested. So with an old PAT tester I would be very wary and learn from what happened to me. Luck all testing done in house so I did not have to contact any customer and tell them the news.

Hi Thanks for aditional info about testers and the fault that was incurred.
I use an Ethos 9600 which is the same as seaward 300 pat tester, seaward pat guard elite 2 software, seaward elite bluetooth printer and Bluetooth bar code reader ...
The check box is to be used between re calibration to comply with the code of practice, however the check box has aditional test functions for other test equipment as well.. all my other equipment has comprehensive instructions.. :)

I've got exactly the same kit as you have, you can easily check your ethos against your existing testers or vice versa ;IE IR and continuity, the ethos also does efli and rcd tests so if you are getting comparable readings all is well .

So with an old PAT tester I would be very wary and learn from what happened to me.

But the OP hasn't got an old PAT tester, has he? He's got an old PAT tester checkbox.
So your rambling story bears no relevance to the thread, does it?

I feel a bit dim now , Your title misled me into thinking it was a dedicated pat tester box you have and the number did'nt click my memory.
I have a seaward check box that I have had for years and the instruction book is still intact, I will scan it for you this week and copy it to pdf if you can somehow get your email address to me securely. The number is not on the machine front, only in small writing on the back and small print on the instructions thats how it's took so long to dawn on me.
