My stepson wants to take a DVD player with him for a couple of days away. However, I have just been told that any electrical items he takes need to be PAT tested..... By Thursday morning! Typical teenager!

Any ideas where I can get this done quickly?

The local electrical shop can do it, but need a 1 week turn around, as it isn't done 'in house'

Yes, just do a visual check and slap a sticker on, its the only part of the test thats really applicable to a class 2 dvd player.

A lot of people would claim that its really rather all pointless and a bit of common sense on the part of the user would be better*, at least for equipment of this type.

* Although I have many times plugged stuff in I'd most certainly have to fail if I was testing it :)

In my experiance DVD players are usually metal cased, I'd think an IR test would be in order to check that the class 2 insulation was really doing its job.

I remember once a spark came to my room at uni to test the electric heaters (dimplex fires).
He just looked at at it and stuck a sticker on it. No PAT test. I asked him if he was going to do one. He said that he has a machine but wouldn't bother. What was the point? The handyman could have done all the testing that guy did.

The point is that if someone is being paid to PAT test and purposely doesn't do it properly then it is fraud.

I would not want to be IR testing a DVD player

Some PAT testers will do a leakage test when doing the operation test, the AVO PAT4/DV does this providing you remember to connect the bond lead to the metal case of the class 2 appliance before the operation test.
