Does anyone know if 110v US equipment would need to be PAT tested? . . . There is an event taking place which I am helping to organise and the venue owners are really anal about everything being PAT tested (it's a government owned venue with wooden construction and they're terrified its going to burn down). The guy coming to perform is from the US and bringing some of his own equipment, now obviously the transformer he is using to step the voltage down so he can use his gear will need testing but what about the equipment itself . . . any ideas?

yes..

all 110v site equipment has to be pat tested often, and most good pat testers come with 110v plugs to test..

however.. since it's american, it's not 110v.... it'd 120v, at 60Hz...

and on that point rasied by coljack, the lower frequency could be problematic...

what sort of equipment are we talking about there?

Just get an american extention lead, put a ceeform plug on it and use the PAT tester in the same setup you would use it for 110V site tools.

The difference between 110V and 120V and the difference between CTE and earthed neutral arrangements are verry unlikely to cause problems for the equipment and if the frequency is a problem it will be just as much of a problem for using the equipment as for testing it.
