Apologies in advance for the bad description of the problem....
Our patio door is locked by pushing the door handle upwards then turning the key. Pushing the handle up causes metal teeth to come out of the edge of the moving door and into holes in the passive/fixed door, and short metals bar jut out if the top and the bottom of the moving door into holes in the frame.
Right now its proving difficult to push the handle up. Either the teeth or those metal doors have over time come out of alignment woth where they are intended to go. The difficulty is that since the door is closed when trying to push the handle up its not possible to see where the issue is.
I just wondered if anybody has any tips on how to realign things ? The doors are hanging firm and straight,..there is no vertical movement on the hinges so
no issue there. The mechnaism on which the teeth and bars come out is moving freely when the door is open so no issues with the locking mechanism.
The passive door does open if we want, but is usually held shut by two smal manually operated vertically sliding bars. I have noticed however that the passive door has some 'give' in that you can push and pull it about a cm' distance in and out when secured.
If there is no easy answer ....failing that can somebody advise what sort of help I should be looking for,...locksmith, carpenter, builder, patio door company ? Sadly the door was here before I moved in so I don't know the supplier.
